Public Policy & Awareness Committee

The Public Policy Committee is playing an important role in the Afterschool Works! campaign by providing information and resources to professionals and programs to help them advocate for the importance of afterschool and develop local champions.

Champion Development & Engagement

As MASN raises awareness about afterschool and moves to support policies that help programs around the state, it is important to have high-profile champions to help us tell our story. The MASN Public Policy & Advocacy Committee and the Afterschool Leadership Team are working to develop leaders from other sectors to help support our efforts and help to elevate afterschool policy conversations at the local, state, and federal levels.

Check out our Statewide Afterschool Champion profiles to learn more about these leaders from around the state! If you are interested in becoming a Statewide Afterschool Champion or know someone who would be, please contact Casey Hanson at hansoncb@missouri.edu.

Advocacy Resources

Part of the committee’s job is to produce and share advocacy materials and activities with the afterschool community to support engagement and advocacy with community leaders, legislators, and more. Visit the MO Afterschool Advocate blog for regular updates and advocacy postings, or check out the Policy Resources page to connect with afterschool-specific resources, sign up for email action alerts, and connect with your elected officials.

Recognition Programs & Contests

The Public Policy & Advocacy Committee has a new program aimed at recognizing excellent afterschool programs and professionals around the state. Nomination forms are now available for the Missouri Afterschool Program Site and Staffer of the Month awards. For more information and to nominate a program or professional, check out our blog post here.

MASN holds an annual Afterschool Works! video contest to engage youth in writing, producing, and starring in videos that communicate the value and importance of afterschool programs in the lives of youth and families. Click here to read more about the Video Contest and to view the videos from past winners.
