Technical Assistance for Grantees

The Missouri Afterschool Resource Center is a service made possible through the partnership between the Missouri AfterSchool Network, Department of Elementary & Secondary Education and University of Missouri-Extension for schools and community organizations providing quality experiences and learning opportunities for youth and families during out-of-school time. Through the provision of technical assistance, support and training, the Resource Center works to ensure that all school age children, youth and families in Missouri have access to high quality, sustainable after school programs.

What is technical assistance?  In one word, we like to define it as coaching!  There is a team of Afterschool Regional Educators (AREs) around the state of Missouri who connect with local programs, primarily grant-recipients, to discuss their individual grant goals and what program quality looks like.  This partnership is based on in-person visits, phone calls, and e-mail communication. Together, the programs and their ARE celebrate the afterschool program successes, while constantly striving to improve program quality based on best practices.

Who are the Afterschool Regional Educators?  AREs are a team of professional afterschool coaches who have a wide variety of afterschool experience including past program directors and certified teachers!  AREs are trained in coaching methods, change management, and Weikart Youth Work Methods.

What is involved in a visit from my ARE?  Your ARE will set up a convenient day and time to come out and meet in-person with both program administrators and site coordinators.  These discussion-based visits often last 1-2 hours depending on the visit and your unique needs.  This is a time to ask questions of your ARE, establish or update your improvement plan, brainstorm, etc.  Your ARE will also schedule observation time at each site.  This will be, at minimum, an hour visit during program time to observe your program in action.  Following this visit, you and your ARE will meet to discuss the observations, address any questions, address any concerns, and celebrate the amazing work you’re accomplishing at your sites!
